AO Racing, one of the more popular teams racing in IMSA currently, is reportedly evaluating plans to expand its program into other series.
The team primarily races in IMSA with its dinosaur-themed Porsche in GTD Pro and a purple dragon livery on its LMP2 entry, which delight fans young and old.
AO Racing also raced one season of WEC in 2023 and has contested the last three 24 Hours of Le Mans events in LMP2.
The team appears to looking to use its success to expand, and options include running a prototype GTP program, joining IndyCar, or even NASCAR.
Speaking to Sports Business Journal, AO Racing chief marketing commercial officer Brian McKinley hinted at the team’s expansion plans.
“Everybody asks me about the future and tell everybody the same thing: Our intention is to take this platform and grow it wider and deeper.
“So wider meaning, what else is out there? It could be other forms of motorsports which we’re looking at – obviously I come from the NASCAR universe.
“Could we go NASCAR racing? IndyCar racing? Could we look at other places within the sports car universe?”

McKinley then elaborated that the team is likely not interested in one-off campaigns such as a run in the Indianapolis 500 unless it was leading to a full time program in IndyCar.
“Do I think we want to be a one-off entry in the Indy 500? No. If that is a stepping stone to us running a full car in IndyCar in the future and that is a desire of where we choose to go, then yes.”
The green #77 Porsche won the 2024 GTD Pro championship in 2024, and the team’s #99 LMP2 entry sits atop the points standings with one race remaining in the 2025 season.
