IndyCar’s yearly visit north of the border to Canada will be held at a new location for the 2026 season.
Instead of being held at Exhibition Place, next year’s Gand Prix of Toronto will be held in nearby Markham.
The relocation is happening largely because of upcoming World Cup events that will be held at Exhibition Place at the time of the event.
Green Savoree, promoters of the Canadian race, announced the details on Wednesday of what is a five year deal at the new location.
Markham Centre, 15 miles northeast of Exhibition Place, is home to many corporate headquarters and has been growing rapidly in recent years.
“We are excited to welcome the exhilarating experience of IndyCar Series racing hitting our streets in 2026,” said Markham mayor Frank Scarpitti.
“We are proud to welcome this world-class event to our community. I want to thank Green Savoree Toronto, Penske Entertainment Corp., NTT IndyCar Series, the Ontario Honda Dealers Association and the Province of Ontario for their trust in our city.
“Markham is ready to build on its strong sports legacy and offer a new home where this celebrated summer tradition can thrive.
“I am extremely proud of our team at the City of Markham for bringing this initiative across the finish line in just a matter of months.”

The new track will be a 12-turn, 2.19-mile layout on the streets near downtown Markham. The circuit will also include a double-sided pit lane, which has proven viable through a couple other recent IndyCar events.
Track design was led by Tony Cotman of NZR Consulting, and will be constructed from roads that sit between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, and Highway 407.
IndyCar’s yearly visit to the Toronto area is the series’ second-longest running street race behind Long Beach, and this new agreement ensures it will continue into the future.
The first race dates at the new location will be August 14-16, 2026.
