Arrow McLaren announced Sunday morning that its driver Nolan Siegel has not been cleared to race for the second event of the Iowa double-header.
Siegel crashed late in the first race on Saturday afternoon, spinning into the Turn 4 wall shortly after his final pit stop.
His car impacted the wall with the rear crash structure, which damaged the SAFER barrier enough that the series was forced to call a red flag while repairs to the track were made.
Siegel walked away from the incident, but appeared a little unsteady as he walked to the waiting medical car.
The next morning it was announced that he would not be able to compete in Sunday’s event due to lingering effects from the crash.
“There’s no place I’d rather be than out there driving today, especially from P5, one of my best starting positions of the season,” said Siegel in a statement.
“I know I’m in good hands with the IndyCar Medical Team and thank them for the great care they provide us drivers.
“Most of all, I feel for the #6 car crew. They gave me a rocket this weekend and put in a ton of work last night with hopes we’d be racing today. They deserve to be out there fighting for podium, and we’ll be back soon to do just that.”
Arrow McLaren will not field the #6 entry for Sunday’s race, opting not to attempt to bring in a reserve driver for the event.
Siegel was solidly in the top 10 before his crash on Saturday, and was likely to earn his best result of the season.
The young driver hopes to be able to race in Toronto when the series visits the street course next weekend.
