Will Power’s contract with Team Penske is up at the end of this season, with negotiations ongoing regarding his future at the powerhouse team.

The team has had its share of other issues this year, however, including a high-profile disqualification from qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 and subsequent leadership changes involving the highest ranking members of the team.

In addition, Team Penske has suffered a historically poor run of results. Each of the team’s three top tier drivers have only recorded one podium so far this season and Power’s ninth place points position is the best in the team.

Power explained that the team’s troubles this season, which were in full effect by the Detroit race in June, have likely delayed more serious talks regarding his contract negotiations.

“Probably, it has probably pushed their decision a little further down the road,” Will Power told Motorsportweek.com.

“I met with Roger [Penske] after Detroit, he said then it would be August for us to reconvene. It’s still going to be late, maybe even after the season.

“I don’t have any clue what the scenarios are. I haven’t been told anything. All I’ve been told is ‘We’ll talk in August.’ That’s it.

“It’s just unfortunate that we’re having such a bad season overall. That’s just so typical. Those things ebb and flow, and happen to fall in a year I’m up for contract.

“Let’s see. Still have plenty of races to have some good days.”

There are a number of drivers that have a contract expiring at the end of this season. A lot of the decisions for next year regarding those drivers likely revolve around what Will Power does.

The veteran has raced with Penske since 2009, but if his seat would be given to someone else it could kick off a raft of changes throughout the paddock.

The 2025 IndyCar season wraps up on August 31, meaning Power’s and other drivers’ announcements could come after the current season is over.
