Tom Dillmann is eyeing a consecutive Chevrolet Grand Prix win, citing Inter Europol’s strong results in trouble-free races earlier this year.
“With the team, we have been strong every weekend,” the defending winner told the media in a pre-event press conference.
“Actually, we were kind of joking yesterday that every race we had no technical issue, we won or finished second.
“This year, we (Inter Europol) had three technical issues – two in IMSA and one in Europe – and in all the other races we either won or finished second.
“We usually have a quick car and execute good races, so I expect the same in Canada.”
The recent Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 winning team and driver are confident about their chances in the 160-minute sprint race, taking the IMSA SportsCar Championship to its sole trip north of the border to Canada’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
LMP2 will host 12 Oreca 07 entrants once again this year, with 10 more cars in the GTD Pro class and 13 in GTD.
He highlighted that LMP2, as the top category, eases post-caution restarts without encountering GTP cars “struggling a little bit with cold tyres”.
Dillmann is returning one year on from securing victory by 0.658 seconds over Riley’s Felipe Fraga, albeit now with a recently acquainted team-mate, Jeremy Clarke.
“I saw Jeremy for the first time at (ELMS) Imola, and he surprised a lot of people […] he has natural ability.
“He’s every day on his simulator, comparing data with me, preparing.
“He also seems to have found a new passion and is putting in a lot of time to catch up.”
The first sprint race this year for IMSA’s LMP2 class takes place on Sunday, 13 July.
