Jack Aitken set the fastest lap time in the opening free practice session as part of the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Six Hours of the Glen.

The British driver was fastest at the wheel of the #31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R in the 90-minute Free Practice 1 session for the fifth round of the 2025 season.

He set a 1:34.584 lap time ahead of both Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 GTP entrants at Watkins Glen International.

Renger van der Zande’s 1:34.662 (#93 Acura) was narrowly 0.078 seconds behind Aitken’s benchmark, followed by the #60 Acura of Tom Blomqvist (1:34.979).

Nick Tandy claimed fourth place in the #7 Porsche Penske 963 GTP with a 1:35.218, followed by Louis Deletraz’s #40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac in fifth (1:35.296).

In the LMP2 category of Oreca 07 machinery, Felipe Fraga was quickest with his 1:35.798.

The session was far from smooth for Fraga in the #74 Riley Oreca who stopped on course at Turn 1, then continued slowly before stopping at T4.

The first red flag of the session, called with under 30 minutes remaining, saw Fraga continue slowly at T5 and T6, before heading to the pit lane.

Paul Di Resta put the #22 United Autosports USA in second place with his 1:35.870 lap time, ahead of Peugeot Hypercar team-mate Malthe Jakobsen, piloting the #04 Crowdstrike by APR Oreca, to a 1:35.940.

Fresh off last week’s LMP2 Pro-Am Le Mans 24 Hours class win, the #99 AO Racing ‘Spike the Dragon’ Oreca finished fourth, owed to Dane Cameron’s 1:35.971.

Sebastien Bourdais’ 1:36.076 rounded out the top-five in the #8 Tower Motorsport Oreca, which will have its fastest qualifying lap time deleted after causing a red flag (like the #74).

With approximately 15 minutes remaining, the #8 stopped on track at T9 but continued again.

Lone Star Racing tops combined GT classification

GTD class team Lone Star Racing and their #80 Mercedes-AMG GT3 was quickest after a 1:45.867 time by Scott Andrews.

Andrea Caldarelli in the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 was the fastest in the GTD Pro category with his 1:45.912 lap time.

Alex Udell put the #36 DXDT Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R in third, second in GTD, from a 1:46.013 as Magnus Racing’s #44 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo followed.

Spencer Pumpelly completed a 1:46.329 to go fourth in the combined GT classification, ahead of the #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth, who drove a 1:46.360.

The other #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus, competing in GTD Pro, set a 1:46.360 in the hands of Ben Barnicoat.

The #3 Corvette encountered issues early in the session on its outlap. Antonio Garcia brought the #3 Corvette back to the garage after the car’s temperature and pressure readings concerned the team, despite a faulty sensor.

They missed the remainder of FP1 to perform a precautionary gearbox change, which reduces the chance of further issues in the second free practice session.

See here for full results. FP2 continues the action tomorrow (Saturday, 21 June) at 09:00 ET or 14:00 BST.
