Alex Marquez produced a record-breaking lap in the closing seconds to top the timesheets in the second Silverstone MotoGP practice.
The Spaniard posted a strong lap time of 1.57.295s right at the death to dethrone Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.
Yamaha continued to show its competitiveness as Pramac rider Jack Miller secured third place for the Japanese marque.
Marc Marquez finished as the lead factory Ducati rider in fourth place, having previously topped the opening session earlier this afternoon.
Marco Bezzecchi secured fifth place for Aprilia while former team-mate Fabio Di Giannantonio ended the session in sixth for VR46 Ducati.
Bagnaia followed in seventh after spending the whole session trying to set a strong competitive lap time.
Johann Zarco finished in eighth place and as the lead Honda rider once more, finishing ahead of Yamaha’s Alex Rins and Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer.
No KTM rider automatically qualified for the second phase of qualifying, with Acosta’s 11th place seeing the Spaniard narrowly missing out.
Joan Mir finished 12th as Miguel Oliveira wrapped up 13th place, ahead of Maverick Vinales and VR46 Ducati rider Franky Morbidelli.
Luca Marini secured 16th place ahead of the KTM duo Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini, who have been unable to get to grips with the RC16 so far.
Raul Fernandez finished in 19th place for Trackhouse, lapping quicker than Aprilia and Honda test riders Lorenzo Savadori and Aleix Espargaro.
Somkiat Chantra finished last for LCR Honda, whereas Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura didn’t set a lap following a Turn 2 high side in practice one.
Ducati sidelined pecco
