Dries Vanthoor took his fourth IMSA pole positions in as many races for BMW after a thrilling qualifying session at Leguna Seca.

The #24 BMW M Hybrid 8 car, driven by the Belgian, set a time of 1:12.854s, just five thousandths ahead of Matt Campbell’s #5 Porsche Penske.

Its sister car, the #7 driven by Felipe Nasr, was third, with a 1:12.932, ensuring that just under eight hundredths of a second covered the top three.

The #25 BMW, driven by Sheldon van der Linde, could only manage sixth, just over two tenths down on Vanthoor’s time, with the #10 Wayne Taylor Cadillac of Felipe Albuquerque fourth, and the #60 Acura Mayer Shank of Colin Braun fifth.
