Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced on Tuesday that Jay Frye has joined the team as president.

Frye had worked directly with IndyCar for the past 12 years, most recently serving as IndyCar President. He spearheaded multiple safety innovations and implemented a rolling five year plan for the series.

He left that role ahead of the 2025 season, allowing Doug Boles to take over his duties while still serving as president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

RLL’s announcement on Tuesday answers the question of what Frye’s next chapter would be.

He takes over as team president for RLL and the team has also confirmed that it has parted ways with Steve Eriksen, who was the team’s chief operating officer.

“First, I would like to thank Steve Eriksen for all of the work he did for us, particularly at a critical moment in time for the company and we certainly wish him the best in his next endeavor,” said Bobby Rahal, RLL co-owner.

“I’m very pleased to have Jay Frye join the team as president of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. I’ve known him since his arrival on the IndyCar scene in 2013 and have spent a lot of time with him and think highly of his character and his passion for the sport.

“I look forward to working with him in the future to take RLL to the place we all want it to be.”

IndyCar and IMSA duties

Frye will oversee RLL’s involvement in both the NTT IndyCar Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He will report directly to the team’s ownership group.

Frye’s new duties begin immediately, with the first race on the team’s schedule being the Grand Prix of Long Beach, which will take place during the April 11-13 weekend.

“Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has a tremendous history of success, both on and off the track,” said Frye.

“I am very proud to be joining the dedicated and talented team of people at RLL. RLL has the foundation, infrastructure and an incredible commitment to continue being successful well into the future.”
