The Englishman set a time of 1:09.617, with the Porsche powertrain looking strong as works driver Antonio Felix da Costa finished second, three hundredths of a second behind.

Oliver Rowland, who was fastest in FP1 yesterday, was third, with reigning World Champion Pascal Wehrlein fourth.

Mitch Evans was fifth, with the Envision pairing of Robin Frijns and Sebastien Buemi sixth and seventh.
