Frederic Makowiecki told Motorsport Week he is keen to conclude his 11-year run with Porsche on a high note at the 8 Hours of Bahrain.

The 43-year-old Frenchman has competed in all FIA World Endurance Championship seasons since the inaugural 2012 campaign.

He drove for Porsche in GTE machinery since 2014 across the WEC and IMSA SportsCar Championship before switching to the new Hypercar programme last year.

“The main thing for me is to finish well with Porsche after 11 years,” he said.

“And after that, for the future, is to try to find a place where my way of thinking and working, we have the same way with the people.

“The development [of the Porsche 963] has been quite tough.

“This has been reflected since the start of 2023.

“It was some aspect where you needed to build up a full team altogether, but I think we also – as Porsche – have been responsible for some luck we had at the beginning.

“Definitely this year, we made some significant improvement on understanding the car and understanding the concept of ‘Which position do you want to place the car?’

“This was quite positive and we got the result from that, but it’s not always easy to do.

“And for that, Porsche can be proud of what we achieved between last year to this year.”

Makowiecki’s committed chapter with Porsche

“I took the decision [to leave], that’s why I will not be bitter about it.

“I got a chance to have people which were open to talk with me about my wish to leave.

“I’m very happy we’re still right in the game to win the championship because I really would like to win the championship as a manufacturer.”

Makowiecki finished twice as a runner-up in the GTE Pro championship in 2014 and 2017 before he took Le Mans 24 Hours class victory in 2022.

He made the vital step up to prototype machinery in the Porsche LMDh project last year, which marked his first full-season WEC campaign since 2017.

Throughout this year, he claimed a trio of his first overall WEC podium finishes with his #5 Porsche teammates Michael Christensen and Matt Campbell.

Porsche announced a reshuffle in the driver line-ups for next year which will see Makowiecki compete in his final race of them in Bahrain.

Most of all, Makowiecki is looking to help Porsche beat Toyota to their first Hypercar Manufacturers’ title on Saturday 2 November.
