Goethe keen to ‘learn as much as possible’ ahead of Baku F2 race

Oliver Goethe has said that he is hopeful of learning more between now and the end of the FIA Formula 2 season as he prepares to tackle circuits he is yet to have driven on before.

The Dane, who forwent his chance to compete for the Formula 3 title to replace new Williams recruit Franco Colapinto at MP Motorsport, made his debut at Monza and despite showing promise, his weekend would begin and end abruptly due to a first-lap collision with Zak O’Sullivan in the Sprint, followed by finishing just outside the top 10 in the Feature.

The Red Bull Junior driver will this weekend face the task of the Baku City Circuit, a track on which he hasn’t raced before.

Goethe told Motorsport Week that he was content with his first race and is also looking forward to the challenge of brand new tracks.

“Yeah, I think the debut went pretty well,” he said. “I was going into that weekend with no preparation or anything. It was a very last-minute call so there was not really any expectations. I was trying to learn as much as possible, enjoy the moment. It was a good weekend overall. A lot of unlucky moments, to be honest.

“The results weren’t really there but the pace was definitely there to fight at the top already. I think going into the next round, that brings confidence. The tracks I’m going to for the last few rounds are a bit trickier than ones I haven’t been to before.”

Goethe also spoke of his happiness for his fellow Red Bull Junior driver Arvid Lindblad, who was confirmed as an F3 graduate having signed a deal with Campos Racing in F2 for 2025.

Yeah, he’s had a good year in F3, so he deserves a spot in F2, that’s for sure. I guess we’ll be racing each other next year, so I’m happy for him. It’s deserved.”

Goethe will be joined by fellow F3 drivers Gabriele Mini, Christian Mansell and Luke Browning this weekend, who are all making their debuts in the series.
