IMSA has confirmed 35 entries for the seventh round on the 2024 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship which will see the LMP2, GTD and GTD Pro categories race for 2-hour and 40-minute sprint.

The Chevrolet Grand Prix will host a field of 35 cars across three of IMSA’s categories at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).

LMP2s will run as the only prototype class for the first time in this year’s event, compared to the GTPs and LMP3s in 2023.

The sprint race will take place on 14 July for 160 minutes around the exciting venue, with 12 LMP2s, 14 GTDs and nine GTD Pro entrants all competing for their respective class victories.

The prototype category is headlined by the usual Oreca 07 Gibson machinery, apart from Sean Creech Motorsport who are using the Ligier JS P217 this year.

Furthermore, four GTP drivers will be competing in the LMP2 category, including the likes of AXR’s Pipo Derani, Chip Ganassi’s Renger van der Zande, and WTRAndretti drivers Filipe Albuquerque and Louis Deletraz.

In the championship standings, Era Motorsport’s recent misfortune at Watkins Glen meant they lost their lead to the #74 Riley crew, albeit trailing narrowly by just eight points.

They also announced the IMSA debut of Stuart Wiltshire at the CTMP as the team is set to assess their decision to elect a Bronze-graded driver for 2025, to formally replace Dwight Merriman.

Dyan Dalziel and Wiltshire will be tasked on closing the gap to the #74 crew of Gar Robinson and Felipe Fraga.

GTD Pro will be represented by seven manufacturers, two of which are each fielding a pair of new cars for the full season.

Laurin Heinrich and Seb Priaulx continue to lead the standings having claimed three race victories so far this year in the #77 AO Racing ‘Rexy’ Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Vasser Sullivan’s Ben Barnicoat and Jack Hawksworth will be keen to narrow the gap further, especially as reigning GTD Pro champions.

Despite a bitter-sweet outing for Ford Multimatic at the Glen, their efforts will continue in their new Mustang GT3 against Chevrolet’s Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the Detroit-based rivalry.

GTD will host the most cars out of the three categories, and #57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 duo Philip Ellis and Russell Ward are dominating ahead of Turner Motorsport’s Patrick Gallagher and Robby Foley in the standings.
