Toyota’s Mike Conway will not compete in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans after he suffered injuries in a cycling accident on Thursday, the Japanese team has confirmed.
He will be replaced in the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid by Jose Maria Lopez, who left the team for this year and has been racing for Akkodis ASP in the #87 Lexus RC F GT3.
He will join Conway’s teammates, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries, in the car for the race.
Interestingly, Toyota has not elected to use its reserve driver, Ritomo Miyata, in place of Conway. Miyata will race at Le Mans in the #37 COOL Racing Oreca 07-Gibson, alongside Malthe Jakobsen and Lorenzo Fluxa.
Lopez shifting to Toyota means Akkodis ASP will need to find another driver to race in the #87 Lexus, to join Takeshi Kimura and Esteban Masson.
Conway’s injuries from his accident include fractures to his ribs and collarbone. It is not known when he will be back in action.
