FIA three-star environmental accreditation was achieved by all rounds of the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship calendar, reiterating WRC Promoter’s commitment to a sustainable future for the championship.

Confirmation was received earlier this month that with the support of WRC Promoter, 2023 returnee Chile, 2023 newcomer Central European Rally and FORUM8 Rally Japan joined the remaining stops on the calendar and earlier events of Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Italia Sardegna by obtaining their third star.

By introducing clear and consistent environmental management into motorsport and mobillity, the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motorsport and mobility stakeholders worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance.

Some notable achievements among the WRC event organisers included a full impact assesment in Japan, which included a complete identification of flora and fauna species across all rally stages, risks, mitigation, and management measures; and in Central European Rally, where carpooling and mass transport initiatives came to the fore as fans actively engaged in reducing their carbon impact.

“We are delighted to have successfully supported our event promoters in achieving their FIA 3-star environmental accreditations in 2023,” enthused WRC Promoter Sustainability Manager Santiago Peña Gomez.

“It was particularly pleasing to work hand-in-hand with Central European Rally, who reached their 3-star level ahead of schedule,” Peña Gomez continued.

“As a Promoter, we not only want to maintain the same level of commitment towards the programme but be even more ambitious when standarising the sustainability performance of our events.”

2024 calendar newcomers Tet Rally Latvia and ORLEN 80th Rally Poland will be undertaken with two stars as they continue to work towards their third star for 2025.
