FIA Formula E has been shortlisted for a top prize at this year’s FEVO Sports Awards, and has also been named one of the most sustainable sporting entities for the year 2023.

In a statement, Formula E said that the integration of “top-tier racing with an unwavering commitment to sustainability and pioneering EV technology” has helped to see it nominated in the category of Sport Organisation of the Year, alongside England Golf, Manchester City FC, the Football Association, the Ultimate Rugby Championship and SailGP, with the ceremony set to take place on April 25th in London. Formula E say that the awards “celebrates the work involved in delivering world-leading events of all formats, or properties using sport as a platform to strive for social change.”

Formula E’s CEO Jeff Dodds told Motorsport Week: “I’m very proud that Formula E has been nominated for ‘Sport Organisation of the Year’ at the FEVO Sport Industry Awards.

“The calibre of the award is well known in the industry, and this is a testament to our journey to becoming the global leader in electric motorsport.

“We’ve had some great achievements that I feel this nomination recognises: Our growing fanbase, now 344 million strong; a super competitive championship crowning different winners every season; and our pioneering status as the world’s first net zero sport since day zero.

“I’m grateful to the Sport Industry Group for recognising our ongoing commitment to not only entertaining our fans, but also to inspiring change for a sustainable future.”

Recognition of Formula E’s ever-growing reputation as a leading champion of sustainability was further enhanced by the news that it has also been named, for the second year in succession, as one of the “best overall performers” – alongside German football club Borussia Dortmund – by the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sports’ (GSBS) annual report, as reported by Forbes.

The GSBS’ independent analysis deemed FE – one of 55 sporting organisations chosen for study scored 81%, outright top in the categories of Social and Governance Performance, and joint-top in Total and Corporate Performance. Its findings, plus the recognition from FEVO, prove that Formula E are very much fulfilling their ambitions whilst increasing its fanbase at an impressive rate.
