United Autosports has confirmed former British Supersport biker and European Le Mans Series podium finisher Josh Caygill to complete their full LMGT3 driver lineup for the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The 34-year-old British driver will join Marino Sato and Nico Pino in the #95 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo entrant in the 2024 FIA WEC, as the Bronze-rated driver in the trio.

He formerly competed with United Autosports in his first European Le Mans Series campaign in 2022, whereby he claimed two podium finishes at the season-opener and finale.

Furthermore, Caygill made a one-off LMP3 outing last year for the team in the Le Mans Cup at Aragon, and so this will be his first GT campaign since his Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup effort in 2018.

He said: “I am absolutely over the moon to be racing the #95 McLaren in the World Endurance Championship.

“This will be my first season on the world stage … and in a McLaren.

“I am so excited for this opportunity.”

“Thank you to Richard [Dean] and everybody else who has helped me reach this point in my racing career.

“I have fantastic co-drivers in Marino and Nico, and an incredible team behind me. I’m going to give it my all.”

United Autosports CEO Richard Dean, added: “Josh is another fantastic addition to our WEC team, completing a dynamic line-up in the #95 with co-drivers Marino Sato and Nico Pino.

“His development with United Autosports over the past two years has been clear, celebrating a pole position and podiums along the way, and I know he will give his full focus to this new challenge in partnership with McLaren Automotive.”

McLaren will return to the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15-16 June since 1998, thanks to United Autosports’ new programme.

Last week, the other #59 McLaren crew was fully completed with James Cottingham and Nicolas Costa joining Gregoire Saucy.

Caygill’s confirmation was the final piece of the jigsaw in the LMGT3 class driver lineup, of which all 54 have been finalised across 18 entries.

The 2024 season will begin on 24-25 February with the official Qatar pre-season test – respectively called the Prologue – followed by the next weekend on 2 March for the 1812 km opening round.

Editor’s Note:

Multi-GT race winner Hiroshi Hamaguchi will make a one-off appearance at Le Mans on 15-16 June, replacing Caygill for that round only.
