RC Enerson has announced that he plans to make his third Indianapolis 500 start this upcoming season, returning to Abel Motorsports for the team’s second-ever IndyCar effort.

The 26-year-old made an appearance at IndyCar’s preseason media session despite not having a previously announced driving deal for 2024.

Donning an Abel Motorsports fire suit as he walked into the room, Enerson quickly confirmed the reason for his presence was to revisit his role as driver for the up and coming team at the 108th Indy 500.

When asked if having deal in place for the second consecutive year will bring him more confidence, he replied that having confirmation of the deal this early in the year has already made a big difference.

“I think we’re just going to be more prepared and I’m going to know what to expect from the car, especially when we start trimming out and then on qualifying day when we turn up the boost,” said Enerson.

“And the biggest one that I’ll have more experience in is just running in traffic, because that was the real battle the entire time.

“It’s more preparation time where we only had a certain amount of time to prep for last year. We have double the amount this year to get ready, so we’re just going to show up a lot more prepared.

“We had so much fun last year, and I think we had a really good performance for a new team, my first time once we qualified in, getting all the practice in. And it was a big learning curve, that’s for sure.

“Hopefully this year the goal is to be more prepared, and now that we’ve done it, it’s just doing it again.”

Enerson raced in his first Indy 500 last year, after failing to qualify for the 2021 event, and retired early following mechanical troubles.

As of this time, Enerson only has plans to run the one race this upcoming May. Abel Motorsports is in the process of acquiring more assets for a potential full season run in 2025, however, which could open more opportunities.
