AO Racing has confirmed Porsche factory driver Michael Christensen along with Sebastian Priaulx and Laurin Heinrich for their IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship endeavour into the GTD Pro category.

The fan-favourite ‘Rexy’ AO Racing #77 Porsche 911 GT3.R will contest the 2024 IMSA season with the green Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur livery once again.

In this case, however, the AO Racing entrant will step up from GTD to the GTD Pro class, as previously confirmed three months ago.

Christensen has been enlisted for the 24 Hours of Daytona, joining full-season drivers Priaulx and Heinrich.

The 2018 GTE Pro Le Mans 24 Hours winner said: “I’m very pleased to join AO Racing for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

“It’s a great team, with a lot of talented people and a good driver lineup.

“I truly believe that we should be in a strong position to fight for a top position.”

“Rexy is ready to step up to GTD Pro,” added Team principal Gunnar Jeannette.

“The public welcomed our GT3 Rawr with open arms and it was a no-brainer to bring Rexy back for another season of racing.

“The addition of Michael to the team only strengthens our effort as we advance to the GTD Pro class.”

There are 13 competitors in GTD Pro, as AO Racing represents one of a pair of 911 GT3.R entrants in the class.

AO Racing managed four top-10 finishes in the 2023 season, with their best of sixth place from the GT Challenge at VIR, which was one of two races solely for the GTD and GTD Pro classes.

The team are aiming to secure a maiden, hotly-contested GTD Pro class win at the 24 Hours of Daytona on 27-28 January.

GTD Pro raises the bar in terms of competition, as the teams are made up of factory-level drivers, many of whom bring a wealth of endurance racing experience for the 62nd running of the Daytona 24.
