The 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 took place this weekend, and it was a rowdy affair that saw multiple crashes and a first-time winner of the great event.

Josef Newgarden eventually took home his first Indy 500 win in his 12th attempt, giving Roger Penske his first win at the great race since he purchased the series and the speedway at the start of 2020.

Multiple red flags near the end of the race gave the final 15 laps extra drama to an already action-filled event, and there were numerous times when drivers were three wide on the front stretch.

The crashes that brought out the red flags included numerous very hard hits, and featured a wheel that flew over the fencing, into a nearby parking lot, and smashed a fan’s vehicle. Luckily nobody was injured, drivers or fans, and there was plenty of pure sporting action to celebrate.

Drivers will only have a few days to recover, as they will be heading to a brand new street course around downtown Detroit in just one week.
