Miguel Oliveira will miss next weekend’s French Grand Prix at Le Mans having been diagnosed with more serious injuries than first anticipated after his Spanish GP crash.

The RNF Aprilia pilot was involved in a clash with Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Quartararo at the start of the encounter at Jerez last weekend, Oliveira being collected by Quartararo at Turn 2 on the opening lap before rolling through the gravel and colliding with the barrier on the far extremity of the bend.

The Portuguese racer was transported to the medical centre in the aftermath of the incident having initially being diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, though it later transpired in the days after the Spanish event that he had sustained more serious injuries than first thought.

His RNF outfit has now revealed that he suffered a fractured humerus in his left shoulder as well as an anterior labrum ligament injury, a tear in the tissue of the part of the shoulder that houses the ligaments.

The Italian will thus make his first premier class start since his last wildcard outing with Aprilia’s factory operation in Austria towards the end of last year, Savadori having last competed at Le Mans in 2021 after starting the year as one of the manufacturers race riders before later being replaced by Yamaha refugee Maverick Vinales.
