Sebastian Buemi capitalised on the pace of his Envision to take pole position in Berlin, beating Sam Bird in the final duel.

Jaguar power continued to show their strength, locking out the front row with Bird lining up alongside Buemi in his best qualifying performance at this track.

In Group A, Stoffel Vandoorne topped the group after showing great pace in practice, with both Envisions also making it through.

Sergio Sette Camara knocked Jaguar’s Mitch Evans out of progressing to the duels, advancing for the first time this season.

Current championship leader Pascal Wehrlein will hope his qualifying performance was a mere blip in form, ending group qualifying way down in eighth.

The session proved difficult for Porsche, with Antonio Felix Da Costa finishing in tenth and neither progressing.

In Group B, Bird topped the times, with Max Gunther, Jake Dennis and Dan Ticktum joining him in the duels’ positions. The group was close, with all 11 drivers being separated by under a second.

The qualifying session will be one to forget for the Nissan-powered teams, with none of their drivers making it through to the duels, despite the pace their package has previously shown.

Ticktum continued to impress in the semi-finals, beating Gunther in their duel by nearly three-tenths.

Vandoorne beat Sette Camara by the greatest margin in the semi-final battles, advancing to the quarter-finals to face Buemi.

Dennis will be pleased with his qualifying performance to keep his championship hopes alive as he lines up fifth on the grid for this afternoon’s race.

Cassidy qualified in sixth place overall, with Sette Camara in seventh and Gunther in eighth.

In the semi-finals, both duels were close. Bird beat Ticktum by five hundredths to advance to the final; Buemi clinched his place in the final by just under a tenth of a second in his duel with Vandoorne.

Ticktum will line up fourth for this afternoon’s race, Vandoorne starting third.

In the final between Bird and Buemi, neither driver was happy with their laps, with both suggesting there was more they could do to unlock lap time out of their cars.

Race action gets underway at 15:03 local time.
