Westbrook puts Cadillac V-LMDh top for the first time in second practice for Daytona 24 Hours

Richard Westbrook put the Cadillac V-LMDh top for the first time in an official IMSA session, as the #02 Chip Ganassi Cadillac driver topped the second practice session for the Daytona 24 Hours.

The Brit set a 1:35.185 to top the timesheets, 0.238 faster than Louis Deletraz in the #10 Wayne Taylor Acura ARX-06.

In third was Westbrook’s teammate, Renger van der Zande, in the #01 Chip Ganassi Cadillac, just four thousandths slower than Deletraz.

Another Cadillac was next up, this time the #31 Action Express car, with Pipo Derani setting the car’s fastest lap. In fifth and sixth was Felipe Nasr in the #7 Porsche 963, followed by Mathieu Jaminet in the sister #6 Porsche.

Pole-sitting car tomorrow, the #60 Meyer Shank Acura, was in seventh, with Colin Braun behind the wheel for that car’s quickest lap. In eighth and ninth was the BMW Team Rll Duo in the M Hybrid V8, Marco Wittmann in the #24 followed by Nick Yellowy in the #25.

In LMP2, for the second successive session, the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Oreca 07-Gibson was quickest, with Nico Lapierre setting a 1:38.615. Second was the #35 TDS Racing Oreca 07 Gibson of Job van Uitert, followed by Christian Rasmussen in the #18 Era Motorsport Oreca 07-Gibson.

Once again for the second successive session, Felipe Fraga was quickest in LMP3 for the #74 Riley Ligier JS P320-Nissan squad, with the Brazilian setting a 1:42.491. In second was Nico Varrone, behind the wheel of the #17 AWA Duqueine D08-Nissan. Third was Matt Bell, in the sister #13 AWA Duquiene D08-Nissan.

Mikael Grenier was quickest amongst the GT cars, with the Canadian lapping the track in 1:46.282, behind the wheel of the GTD-classed #32 Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. Next up, this time leading the GTD Pro category, was another Mercedes, this time Jules Gounon in the #79 WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3, setting a 1:46.400.

Second in GTD went to Ryan Briscoe, in the #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3, with Kenny Habul third in the #75 SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Alex Riberas in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 was second in GTD Pro, although behind seven GTD cars. Third in GTD Pro, just behind Riberas, was Jordan Taylor in the #3 Corvette C8.R.

The third practice session, taking place at night, starts at 7:15pm local.
