ABT’s Robin Frijns’ appearance at the Diriyah E-Prix is in doubt after breaking his wrist during an opening lap incident at the Mexico E-Prix.

The Dutchman, who has not retired from a race in two years, didn’t make it through the first lap before making contact with Norman Nato forcing both cars to retire.

Informing the audience through their race coverage, Formula E stated that Frijns would require surgery on an injury to his wrist while in Mexico.

His team later confirmed via a tweet that Frijns was heading to the hospital for further examination of the fracture to his left wrist, with the team sending their best wishes to their driver.

With the next event of Season 9 coming at the end of the month, Frijns and the ABT team will be closely assessing the possibility of him being able to race or consider drafting in cover.

We are sad to confirm that @RFrijns has suffered a fracture to his left hand and is being examined at the hospital. We are sending lots of love ❤️ pic.twitter.com/g9tO5D5Sri
