Arrow McLaren SP has announced multiple management changes within the team for the 2023 season, which is expanding from two to three cars next season.
The largest change is that Gavin Ward, who joined AMSP in July and has previously spent time as an engineer at Team Penske, will become the growing team’s racing director.
He will oversee the technical performance team, which includes a suite of experienced personnel that oversee the operations, performance, and competition divisions.
In addition, it was announced that Brian Barnhart will be joining the team as a general manager in 2023.
Barnhart is very experienced in all aspects of the IndyCar paddock, and has previously served in various roles from the director of race operations, to chief race steward, to team president of Harding Steinbrenner Racing, and strategist for multiple drivers.
The news comes shortly after Taylor Kiel announced he was leaving his role as Team President a couple weeks before, which opened up a the possibility for a reorganization as the team shifted to three cars.
“This leadership team has decades of racing success, with each bringing their own expertise to the group which will be a differentiator for the team as we grow to a three-car lineup in 2023 and continue to build on our heritage in the sport,” said Zak Brown.
“Gavin has made a solid impact in the few short months he’s been with the team, and we welcome Brian and the years of IndyCar experience he brings to the team.”
Also part of the announcement was the news that Felix Rosenqvist will be driving the new #6 car, while Alexander Rossi will take over the #7. Pato O’Ward will remain in the #5 that he has driven since the start of 2020.
Billy Vincent will remain as the voice on the radio for Rosenqvist, while Barnhart will fill the role for Rossi. The team has yet to decide who will fill Kiel’s role on the radio for O’Ward.
