With the 2022 IndyCar season nearing its conclusion, reigning series champion Alex Palou is still uncertain where he will drive next season.

Both Chip Ganassi Racing and McLaren Racing have claimed to have valid contracts with the Spaniard for 2023, and the disagreement has gone all the way to federal court in order to get sorted out.

Reports came out this past weekend, however, that McLaren is now willing to buy out Palou’s existing Ganassi contract in order to obtain his services.  That development alone could lead to a swift resolution if both parties can agree on terms.

Palou confirmed to MotorsportWeek.com that he believes everything will get settled soon, and he will be able to make proper plans for next season.

“I think it’s looking like it [will get settled soon after the season is over],” confirmed Palou.  “That’s the idea from every party, that results come as soon as possible.”

It would be beneficial for all sides if a resolution comes quickly, because much of the upcoming offseason could then be spent properly planning for next year.

A drawn-out court battle would hurt everyone involved in the sticky situation, and would also cost considerable amounts of money and resources.

Asked if an agreement could be reached quickly enough to be settled before the upcoming season finale at Laguna Seca, Palou admitted that it could be possible.

“I don’t know about that.  Laguna is just a couple days out, so I have no idea.  I don’t know to be honest.  It could happen, but I don’t know.”
