Porsche has confirmed Frederic Makowiecki will replace Richard Lietz in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR-19 this weekend for the FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Monza.

Lietz tested positive for COVID-19 before leaving for Monza, and an official WEC bulletin said the driver has “severe symptoms” of the virus. He will therefore be replaced by Fred Makowiecki, another Porsche factory driver with vast experience in GT cars. Indeed, Makowiecki, along with Lietz and fellow co-driver in the #91 Porsche, Gianmaria Bruni, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month.

The WEC bulletin also adds that although according to the regulations, a fine should be imposed for changing the declared driver line up, due to the circumstances and force majure, the fine will not be imposed.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Monza begins on Sunday July 10th 2022, with the green flag waving at 12:00 local time.
