Over the past month, two drivers have been confirmed to be driving for Arrow McLaren SP next season, with Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi signing multi-year contracts with the team.

The current driver of the #7 entry, Felix Rosenqvist, is now the lone driver currently associated with AMSP to not have a guarantee for next year.

With silly season in full effect and multiple drivers rumored to be having talks over his seat, Rosenqvist finds himself in the middle of a race to get a contract extension signed.

Speaking with MotorsportWeek.com, the Swede related that his first option is to stay where he is with the team, and that strong results could sway the balance in his favor.

“I’m on a contract year, and with that you always need to perform,” said Rosenqvist.  “That doesn’t really change.  With Alex [Rossi] coming to the team, that doesn’t really change anything either.

“My ambition is to stay where I’m at.  If I wouldn’t stay here, maybe I’d look around and other series or options.  In general, I’m committed to what I’m doing right now.

“It’s always helpful if you have a win or two, but I’m not really thinking too much about it.  I think I just continue what I’m doing, and it will be fine.”

Rosenqvist has struggled a bit to find a good chemistry since switching to AMSP in 2021, but he is beginning to gel well with his new engineer and his results have been showing progress in the past few rounds.

Three consecutive top 10 finishes have placed the 30-year-old ninth in the points standings, and he is working his way towards grabbing his first IndyCar victory since early 2020.

“It’s good to have a couple good races,” continued Rosenqvist.  “I feel like we’re finally really gelling well on the engineering side and the pit wall.

“It’s been a lot of changes since last year for the people on my car.  It always takes time to get it right.  With a new engineer this year, you have to learn what you like and you don’t like.  He has to learn how I work, and I have to learn how he works.

“Overall, I feel like we’re in a really good place right now.  Everywhere we show up, it feels like we have a chance to be at the front.  That’s all you can ask for.  I think we’ll have some really good results coming up.”
