Rinus VeeKay has earned his second career NTT Pole Award, lapping the Barber Motorsports Park course faster than any of his competitors.

The young Dutch driver left his fastest lap until the final seconds, and was able to complete the 2.38-mile circuit in a time of one minute 6.2507 seconds.

Pato O’Ward will start on the outside of the front row, narrowly missing out on earning pole for the second year in a row at the Alabama track.  He confirmed that he is happy with his car, however, and will be a contender for the win come Sunday.

Arrow McLaren was the only team to have two cars in the Fast Six, with Felix Rosenqvist putting in a solid effort to start in the sixth position.

Alex Palou and Scott McLaughlin will make up the second row, and both drivers have had the fastest cars of their teams all weekend.

Alexander Rossi bounced back from a practice crash that forced his Andretti team to replace his engine in less than 90 minutes, and was able to earn an impressive fifth place start.

Colton Herta looked like he was going to easily start in the top few spots, but his team’s decision to leave his Fast 12 qualifying lap until the last second backfired.

Marcus Ericsson ended up beaching his car in the gravel, which brought out the red flag and denied Herta a chance to complete his fast lap.

Other drivers were caught out by the red flag as well, and a couple other drivers who were on fast laps, such as Romain Grosjean and Callum Ilott, will also have to start from a little further down the field.

Will Power had a poor qualifying session all around, and just could not get his Team Penske Chevrolet to hook up.  The Australian will start down in X

There could be ample opportunity for drivers at the rear to make their way to the front of the field, however, as off-and-on rain is forecast for the race.

The 90-lap Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama will start on Sunday, just as rain showers are scheduled to move into the area.
