Hitech terminates agreement with Uralkali

Hitech Grand Prix has terminated its sponsorship agreement with Russian fertiliser company Uralkali.

Hitech has been partnered by Uralkali since 2016, the year in which Nikita Mazepin, son of the company’s co-owner Dmitry, raced for the team in European Formula 3.

Mazepin competed for Hitech in Formula 2 in 2020 – the year in which the team graduated to the championship – prior to his step up to Formula 1 with Haas.

Documents released by Companies House last month revealed that a holding company controlled by Dmitry Mazepin had relinquished its shares in Hitech, with team boss Oliver Oakes taking full control.

On Tuesday Hitech confirmed that it had severed its connection with Uralkali.

Its branding had already been removed from its Formula 2 cars during last week’s test in Bahrain.

Hitech finished fourth in last year’s Formula 2 standings and claimed three victories.

Red Bull-backed junior Juri Vips will continue with its Formula 2 team this year and he has been joined by ex-Ferrari protégé Marcus Armstrong.

In Formula 3 Hitech will field Kaylen Frederick, Isack Hadjar and Nazim Azman.
