Pramac Ducati has become the latest MotoGP squad to uncover its 2022 paint scheme, the Italian team showing off its Desmosedici in an online launch.
In a 2022 that signifies a significant change within the team structure after the appointment of Claudio Calabresi as its new Team Manager-following the defection of his long-standing successor Francesco Guidotti to the factory KTM outfit at the end of last year- it will at least field an unchanged rider line-up in ’21 rookie sensation Jorge Martin and the experienced Johann Zarco.
Also remaining similar are the colours that will adorn its pair of Ducati Desmosedici GP22’s across the upcoming campaign, with its primary colours of red and white remaining, though this year with an increase of the amount of dark blue that results in a slightly more vibrant scheme relative to its previous liveries.
“The expectations are bigger, the bike is a bit different and at the last test we have a lot of new parts so we need to try and establish a good base,” said Martin.
“The target is to finish in the top four or five, so it’s an important year and I look forward to trying really hard.”
Zarco added that he was keen to try and find a little more consistency for the new term after struggling for results in the second part of 2021 following a strong opening phase of the year, the two-time Moto2 world champion reckoning he has “learned a lesson” from his late difficulties.
“I think I’ve learnt again that the season is pretty long, in 2020 we had a shorter season with Covid (19) and in 2021 we had a more normal season with 17 races, and with that many you can start really well and have a fantastic first half but then if you struggle in five races then it’s like you missed the season,” explained Zarco.
“It’s a good lesson to help me focus even harder for 2022.”
Pramac’s new scheme will make its track debut tomorrow in the first official day of 2022 pre-season testing at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia following the short rookie/test rider shakedown test earlier this week.
