Toyota Gazoo Racing have clinched the 2021 Hypercar Teams World Endurance Championship with their one-two victory in Bahrain.

With the win for Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez under the lights in Bahrain, the Japanese manufacturer have won the title from Alpine with one race remaining.

They thus become the first-ever Hypercar Teams champions.

It is Toyota’s third teams championship victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship, having also won the title during the 2018-19 and 2020-19 seasons.

Toyota has won every single race of the season thus far in the debut season for its GR010 Hybrid Hypercar, taking its debut win in Spa, with the #8 car of Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley winning the opening round.

The trio followed that up with victory in Portimao, before Conway, Kobayashi and Lopez took their first race win at Monza in a race where the #8 car suffered fuel pressure issues.

More issues struck at Le Mans, but were controlled and Toyota managed to take home a Hypercar one-two with Conway, Kobayashi and Lopez taking their respective maiden Le Mans wins.

With the latest victory for the trio in Bahrain, Toyota clinched the team’s title.

It still has the opportunity to make further history next weekend during the Eight Hours of Bahrain, as it could become the first and only manufacturer in championship history to win all races of the season.
