W Series drivers Ayla Agren and Beitske Visser have been discharged from hospital after they were involved in a multi-car incident during qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday.

In the early minutes of the session, six cars slipped off the road through the Eau Rouge complex, with the session red-flagged immediately after.

All six drivers were assessed by medical staff at the circuit, while Agren and Visser taken to hospital for further checks.

Sarah Moore, Abbie Eaton, Belen Garcia and Fabienne Wohlwend were also involved in the incident, but did not require hospital evaluation.

Both Agren and Visser were discharged from the hospital on Friday night, with Visser undergoing a CT scan and an X-ray, which revealed no significant injuries.

“Thank you all for your messages,” Visser wrote on social media. “That was a very scary one but I think I had an angel on my shoulder, I’m very sore but luckily I have no fractures.”

The track brought the Eau Rouge/Raidillon corners under further scrutiny, as the crash added to the list of heavy accidents that have occurred there recently.

In this year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Spa, Jack Aitken suffered a broken collarbone and a fractured vertebra in a huge multi-car shunt.

Two years ago, Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert died following an accident in the same sequence of track.

In 2018, Pietro Fittipaldi broke both of his legs during a World Endurance Championship qualifying session after crashing at the corner.
