Ross Chastain joins Trackhouse Racing

Ross Chastain will be the driver of the #1 Chevrolet for the newly expanded Trackhouse Racing team in 2022. He’ll be a teammate to Daniel Suarez, who already drives the #99 for the team that is in its first year of NASCAR Cup Series in 2021.

“This is another dream come true for me,” Chastain said. “Trackhouse is one of the most interesting organizations in the garage. The enthusiasm they bring off the track and the program they are building on the track is exciting. Working with Daniel and Justin (Marks, team co-owner), however I can, is my number one priority. I know that I can help build our Chevrolets to be as strong as possible.”

Trackhouse will purchase the NASCAR portion of Chip Ganassi Racing to make its expansion to a two-car team, both entries with charters.

Chastain already is with CGR and will complete the season as driver of the #42 Ganassi Chevrolet. That team will be eliminated at the end of 2021, and Kurt Busch, current driver of the #1, will be released from CGR.

“Ross is a young, aggressive driver that we believe has the talent to win races at the Cup Series level,” Trackhouse co-owner Justin Marks said. “We think his personality and work ethic will fit perfectly with Daniel as we build our organization for the 2022 season and beyond.”

Chastain has two top-fives and six top-10 race finishes and is 18th in the points standings, 22 races into the 36-race 2021 season, his first with Ganassi. In all, Chastain has 101-career Cup Series starts, resulting in two top-fives and seven top-10 finishes.

Chastain is a race winner in NASCAR’s other two national series, with two wins in 192-career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts and three wins in 95 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races.

“I am very happy with the selection of Ross as a teammate next year,” Suarez said. “He brings a lot to the table. I am looking forward to start working with him and making our two Trackhouse cars as fast as possible. I know we are going to win races.”

Suarez is 22nd in the Cup Series driver points standings as Trackhouse’s first diver. He has one top-five and three top-10 finishes through 22 races.
