The Automobile Club de l’Ouest has announced that approximately 50,000 fans will be allowed to attend the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans.

After the 2020 edition of the race was held behind closed doors for the first time ever as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACO is allowing a limited number of fans to attend the 89th edition of the race on August 21-22.

Attendance will be limited to approximately 50,000 fans, 20 per cent of the Circuit de la Sarthe’s overall capacity.

All fans who want to attend the event will be required to present the health passport, which was introduced by the French government on Wednesday.

Both the scrutineering sessions and Test Day will remain closed to spectators, and the track will only open to the public for the first practice sessions. Several campsites and car parks will be available. Admission will be free for guests aged under 16.

The traditional concerts and fun fair, usually held at The Esses past the Dunlop Bridge, will not be held in order to comply with health regulations, but the ACO states that it will offer ‘whole range of entertainment to provide an outstanding experience for fans returning to the circuit.’

Tickets for ACO members go on sale June 17, with general ticket sales starting on June 20.
