Haupt Racing Team announces two-car DTM entry

Haupt Racing Team, the outfit founded by former DTM driver Hubert Haupt, will campaign a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos in the 2021 DTM championship.

Haupt raced in DTM in 1991 and 1992 with Audi and later took part in a third season with Opel in 2001, and founded his own racing squad after parting ways with Black Falcon in 2020.

In its first season, the team took podiums and race wins in both the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) as well as the GT World Challenge Europe and notably took pole position for the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The team will now field a pair of cars in the revamped DTM series, racing with factory support from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. It says that the driver line-up will be revealed at a later date.

In addition to its DTM debut, the team will also continue to compete in the NLS and GT World Challenge Europe, as well as the Spa and Nürburgring 24-hour races.

“I am really looking forward to the DTM,” Haupt said. “This series is closely linked with my own personal career as a racing driver – and now as a team owner too.

“We only started out with HRT in the middle of 2020, and have already claimed some major successes on the GT3 scene as a Mercedes-AMG Performance Team.”

“Entering the DTM is now the logical next step for us. We know it is going to be a huge challenge, but that is exactly what we love.”

“All of us here at HRT are passionate about motorsport and will take our usual professional approach to this challenge.”
