McLaren became the first team to launch their 2021 Formula 1 challenger, the MCL35M, with the ‘M’ signalling a return to Mercedes power following brief stints with Honda and then Renault.
The car is, on the surface, similar to its predecessor, which is down to the rules and a development freeze. However there are some major changes, such as a new power unit, a change to the floor which must now have an angled cut, plus changed to the diffuser.
The floor can be seen best in this slider, but there are also numerous aerodynamic changes, which weren’t subject to a freeze. Teams will be keen to recoup the lost downforce as a result of the changes to the floor and diffuser, and it’s expected the bargeboards will prove key in doing so.
In this slider you can see the bargeboards have undergone some development, though it’s likely they’ll look different come the first race in Bahrain.
Wow, this is brilliant…
And people say they are the same 🤷🏼♀️
