Daruvala sticks with Carlin for second F2 season in 2021

Red Bull junior driver Jehan Daruvala will remain on the Formula 2 grid in 2021 after signing up for a second season with Carlin.

Daruvala joined the British team in 2020 after a strong 2019 Formula 3 season with Prema in which he finished third in the standings.

The Indian driver endured a more challenging campaign in 2020, scoring three point finishes in the opening 14 races of the year.

However, results became more consistent in the second half of the season, with a number of top 10 results culminating in a podium, and then a maiden win at the Bahrain finale.

“I’m extremely excited to be staying in F2 and with Carlin for 2021,” said Daruvala.

“We made a lot of progress last year and overcame some issues to put together a really strong package. It was great to end the season on such a high with my first F2 win and then to back that up with front running pace in post-season testing.

“We have a lot of momentum behind us and although we know that other drivers and teams will have made steps forward over the winter, we will be aiming for the top step in every race.

“Consistency will be the key to a successful championship campaign, so we need to be on the pace from the start.

“I’m extremely proud to be carrying Red Bull colours again this season and I thank Dr [Helmut] Marko and my sponsors for their continued support and belief in me which I will be looking to repay from the very first race.”

Daruvala’s team-mate has not yet been announced for the new campaign, however he was joined at the post-season test by Williams F1 development driver Dan Ticktum.

Darauvala is one of three current Red Bull young drivers on the 2021 F2 field, with Juri Vips and Liam Lawson forming Hitech GP’s line-up.

The 22-year-old confirmed earlier this week that he contracted Covid-19 after the new year, but asserts he is “recovering well”.
