United Autosports team manager Richard Dean says he is ‘very proud’ of his team’s achievements in 2020, which saw them win titles in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.

United Autosports has been a force to be reckoned with in 2020, winning races in both the WEC and ELMS. In WEC, the team remains undefeated since last year’s 8 Hours of Bahrain in December.

Since then, the team has gone on to win at Circuit of the Americas, Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans. This allowed them to lock up the LMP2 title a race early.

Additionally, the team has also taken a championship double in the European Le Mans Series, winning the title in both LMP2 and LMP3.

“Bahrain holds some great memories for us as the scene of our first World Championship win,” Dean said.

“We are hopeful that we can continue this run of unbelievable results we have been having this year and end the season on a great note.

“The team have worked so hard over what has been a difficult year, but I am very proud of each one of them.”

Ambitious 2021 plans

While 2020 has been an undoubtedly great year for the Anglo-American squad, the team has great ambitions for the years to come. It has previously announced an entry into the Rolex 24 at Daytona in the LMP3 category.

Additionally, it will expand back into GT racing with a two-car McLaren GT4 program, plans which also involved the purchase of Strakka Racing assets.

The team is expected to remain in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2021 and to add to an ever-growing list of involvements, the team has confirmed ahead of WEC’s Bahrain season finale that it will return to the Asian Le Mans Series in 2021.

It will field a pair of Ligier JS P320-Nissans, with Jim McGuire confirmed as the team’s first driver.

“Since I heard that the Asian Le Mans Series was moving the full racing calendar to Abu Dhabi, I thought it was a brilliant idea,” said Dean. “What better winter testing programme is there for our LMP3 team.

“There are still some details to sort out, but the organisers have made every effort to keep teams safe, while also being able to race. Each race will be something different too – racing in the daytime, night time, dusk etc, so there will still be plenty to challenge our drivers.

“I’m thrilled Jim has joined the team already. It will be good for him, our drivers and the whole team, to continue racing through winter so we keep sharp for the European season too.”

The full 2021 Asian Le Mans Series campaign will take place at Yas Marina
