Yuki Tsunoda won the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race win at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Red Bull junior driver was awarded victory after Nikita Mazepin took the chequered flag first on the road but was given a five-second time penalty for forcing the Japanese driver off the track at Les Combes in the closing stages.

The punishment dropped the Russian to second but is also under investigation for not only for an unsafe release during his mandatory pit stop, where he nearly collided with Trident team personnel but also for the manner he drove his car into parc ferme after the race had finished.

Mick Schumacher picked up his fifth podium of the season with third place ahead of Louis Deletraz.

Robert Shwartzman closed down the gap in the championship by finishing fifth and collecting the extra two points for the fastest lap.

Dan Ticktum fended off Guanyu Zhou to come home sixth, with the Chinese driver seventh in front of Roy Nissany, who not only achieves his best ever F2 result of his career but will start on reverse-grid pole for Sunday’s Sprint Race.

Rounding out the points-scorers are Luca Ghiotto and Callum Ilott, whose gap over Shwartzman in the race for the title is narrowed down to seven points, with Tsunoda a further four points behind in third.

On Lap 19, team personnel from all teams applauded in memory of Anthoine Hubert, marking nearly a year since the Frenchman’s tragic passing in last year’s F2 accident at Spa.

The FIA Formula 2 grid contest on Sunday in the Sprint Race, which begins at 10:10 BST.
