Vergne wins in Berlin as da Costa, DS Techeetah seal Season 6 championship

Jean-Eric Vergne (FRA), DS Techeetah, DS E-Tense FE20, 1st position, crosses the checkered flag

Jean-Eric Vergne fronted a DS Techeetah 1-2 in the fourth leg of Formula E’s season finale as Antonio Felix da Costa secured the Drivers’ Championship title.

The Frenchman pipped his team-mate to pole position for the ninth race of the 2019/20 campaign and from the outset, the Franco Chinese team demonstrated their class.

Maintaining first and second as the lights went out, a strategic approach to racing saw Vergne and da Costa alternate positions throughout the 45-minute + 1 lap event to protect a 1-2 from Nissan e.dams.

Da Costa first passed Vergne with 26-minutes left on the clock, however, the double-champion again re-passed with seven-minutes remaining after both deployed their second use of Attack Mode.

Only 0.0497s separated the pair when the chequered flag waved, with Vergne taking his first victory of the campaign while da Costa took the Season 6 crown, with this haul of 47 points also handing DS Techeetah the Teams’ title for the second year in a row.

Sebastien Buemi completed the podium after a team-game between he and Oliver Rowland, with the Briton completing the top five after getting overtaken by Nyck de Vries in the final laps.

Audi registered six points courtesy of Lucas di Grassi in sixth. He was followed by Jaguar’s Mitch Evans who took seventh to provide the British marque with its largest points haul since the Mexico City E-Prix.

Andre Lotterer followed in eighth for Porsche while Alex Lynn took a deserved two points for Mahindra, running into technical difficulties late on. Felipe Massa completed the top 10.
