Red Bull and Honda junior Yuki Tsunoda claimed his maiden victory in Formula 2 at Silverstone after Prema’s drivers collided while battling for victory.

The Japanese driver started third on the grid behind Robert Shwartzman and Mick Schumacher, as all three of them bridged a gap from the rest to tussle it out for the race win.

With three of the 21 laps remaining, Tsunoda was right on the tail of Shwartzman and Schumacher but was able to watch on as the pair collided.

A DRS-assisted Schumacher tried to go around Shwartzman at Brooklands but the pair collided, breaking Shwartzman’s front wing, and pushing his own car wide.

Tsunoda capitalised on their error and swooped into the lead and while Schumacher was able to re-join the track in second Shwartzman’s broken front wing meant he eventually dropped out of the top 10.

Stewards opted to take no further action.

Therefore, Tsunoda won out with Schumacher second and Jack Aitken making it two podiums this weekend in third.

Louis Deletraz was fourth for Charouz ahead of Guanyu Zhou, Callum Ilott, Dan Ticktum and Nikita Mazepin in the top eight. Schumacher picked up the extra two points for the fastest lap out of those in the top 10.

Ilott’s sixth place sees him extend his lead in the championship to 19 points, as his nearest title challengers Christian Lundgaard and Robert Shwartzman failed to score, with the ART driver struggling with his tyres before suffering a front-left failure.

FIA Formula 2 will next contest in Barcelona in a week’s time, part of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
