Spa 24 Hours race to run for 25 hours

Organisers of the Spa 24 Hours have announced that this year’s event will run across 25 hours.

The annual day-long race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps was due to take place in late July but has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Its new date of 24-25 October coincides with the end of Central European Summer Time on the continent and therefore clocks will go back by one hour at 03:00 on Sunday morning.

But rather than have a one-hour offset between the start and finish time the chequered flag will fly at the same time – 15:30 – on Saturday and Sunday.

It means that the event will run for 25 hours.

Organisers described it as a chance to “celebrate the once-in-a-lifetime autumn edition” in which competitors will carry out more running at night than ever before.

The event, which will still be called the Spa 24 Hours, acts as a round of the GT World Challenge Europe and Intercontinental GT Challenge.

The GT4 European Series, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Formula Renault Eurocup will be on the support bill for the event.

A detailed timetable will be issued in the coming weeks.
