Reigning DTM champion Rene Rast has set the fastest time on the fourth and final day of pre-season testing at the Nürburgring.

Rast lapped the Nürburgring’s Sprint layout in a time of 01:19:028, 0.165s clear of BMW’s Timo Glock in second place. Rast’s time could not top the fastest time across all days of testing. That time, a 01:18:911, was set by Team WRT’s Ferdinand Habsburg on Wednesday.

Jonathan Aberdein, BMW’s newest factory star, ended the final day of running third ahead of Mike Rockenfeller. Rockenfeller had the distinction of covering the most amount of laps across the four-day test. The German veteran completed 569 laps behind the wheel of his Audi RS5 DTM, 28 more than series newcomer Robert Kubica.

Robin Frijns ended the final session in fifth place, some three-tenths behind Rast but still ahead of 2019 runner-up Nico Müller in sixth.

Robert Kubica set his quickest time of pre-season testing behind the wheel of his ART BMW M4 DTM when he took eighth with a 01:19:493, ahead of surprise entrant Harrison Newey. Newey made a surprise appearance with Team WRT and set the ninth fastest time. The Briton’s test outing is likely the result of the absence of WRT’s signee Ed Jones. The former IndyCar driver is stuck in Dubai and was unable to attend the test.

Loic Duval completed the top ten ahead of the Team WRT duo of Fabio Scherer and Ferdinand Habsburg, while Philipp Eng failed to set a lap time.
