British WEC squad JOTA Sport have contributed to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom by producing and donating 3D-printed face masks to the National Health Service to be used by medical personnel.
JOTA Sport currently fields two teams in the LMP2 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The British squad runs both the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA 07-Gibson of Will Stevens, Gabriel Aubry and Ho Pin Tung and the #38 ORECA under its own banner, driven by Anthony Davidson, Antonio Felix da Costa and Roberto Gonzalez.
Sam Hignett, JOTA Sport Team Principal, explained that the squad approached the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to help from its Kent base, which in turn led to the 3D printing of face masks, which will be donated. The Trust have two hospital locations in London at Waterloo and London Bridge, which the team will supply.
According to JOTA, each mask takes about 45 minutes to print and 20 seconds to assemble. The team expects around 200 masks to be produced by the end of the week.
