Updated IndyCar 2020 Schedule could include St. Pete
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

As a part of today’s announcement that the Indianapolis 500 has been delayed until August, IndyCar released an updated schedule for the rest of the 2020 season.

Included in that schedule is a placeholder for the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg which was cancelled shortly before taking place on March 15.

Since the race is run on a street circuit, the city of St. Petersburg is still working to get everything in place that would allow the streets to be closed for an additional weekend later in the year.

If the race does the get approvals to go ahead, it would likely take place after Laguna Seca in early October, becoming the season finale.  For 2021, the St. Pete race would move back to its traditional place at the start of the calendar.

Other schedule changes include the race at Mid-Ohio being moved a week earlier to August 9 and the race at Gateway being moved a week later than originally planned to August 30.  These moves are specifically to fit in the Indianapolis 500 which itself needs close to two full weeks of on-track action.

The race at Portland International Raceway also shifts a week later to September 13.

At this time, the planned start of the season is now the ‘Dual in Detroit’ street races taking place May 30-31.
