Jaguar’s Mitch Evans takes dominant win in Mexico City

Mitch Evans stormed to victory at the Mexico City E-Prix, recording Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s second Formula E victory.

Securing a spot in Super Pole as the fastest driver in the group qualifying stages, Evans narrowly missed out on pole position to Porsche’s Andre Lotterer, lining up alongside the German on the front row.

Obtaining the optimum launch, Evans gained an early advantage on Lotterer, overtaking the pole sitter with a diving move into Turn 1 before driving into the distance, remaining unchallenged for the entirety of the 45-minute + 1 lap affair.

Amidst a chaotic E-Prix, seeing only 15 drivers take the chequered flag, it was Antonio Felix da Costa who took the runner-up spot, gaining second in the dying stages of the race after Sam Bird crashed out in Turn 3.

Sebastien Buemi meanwhile recorded his first points finish of the season for Nissan e.dams by taking fifth – his first podium since July’s New York City E-Prix.

A competitive run for Jean-Eric Vergne handed the Frenchman fourth place, fighting forward from ninth on the grid while Alexander Sims completed the top five, overtaking Stoffel Vandoorne at the close of the race when the Mercedes EQ driver collected the barriers in Turn 3.

Lucas di Grassi followed the Briton in sixth while Oliver Rowland completed a double points finish for Nissan e.dams in seventh. Edoardo Mortara followed in eighth for ROKiT Venturi Racing.

Jamed Calado recorded his third consecutive points finish by taking ninth in the second Jaguar while Pascal Wehrlein completed the top 10 after starting from last place and serving a drive-through penalty.
