With the start of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) later this week, Wales Rally GB’s been selected as the fifth and final round of the FIA Junior World Rally Championship.

Following the cancellation of Rally Chile for 2020, eligible Junior WRC competitors will challenge for double championship points to make for an even more exciting season finale.

Wales Rally GB has been the championship-decider to many season-long battles, and 2019 was no different when Jan Solans emerged as the Junior WRC champion after a three-way title fight with Tom Kristensson and Dennis Radstrom.

Maciej Woda, FIA Junior WRC Team Director, said: “Finishing the 2020 FIA Junior WRC Championship on Wales Rally GB will make for a very exciting and unpredictable end to the championship story. This rally has been the scene of so many important moments in the FIA World Rally Championship and FIA Junior WRC was able to add its own standout moment there in 2019 when Jan Solans was crowned champion.

“The rally itself is a very challenging one which does mean that this year’s crews will have to put in the extra hours to study and train for it in order to earn their double points for the last round of the season.”

All competitors will pilot Ford Fiesta R2Ts prepared by M-Sport to provide a level playing field for the next generation of WRC drivers. The forests, mud, wet and foggy conditions with its roads lined with piles of logs will challenge crews like no other on the Junior WRC calendar.

To be eligible for the Junior WRC crown at Wales Rally GB, crews need to have completed at least three of the previous four rallies. The Junior WRC calender includes Rally Sweden (13-16 February); Rally italy )4-7 June); Rally Finland (6-9 August); Rally Germany (15-18 October); and, Wales Rally GB (29 October-1 November).
