The fourth-round of the 2020 World Rally Championship, Rally Chile, has been cancelled amid ongoing political unrest in the South American country.
The event, based in Concepción and held throughout the Biobio region of Chile, only joined the WRC calendar this year with Ott Tanak claiming the victory.
However the country has seen riots and a state of emergency put in place following a government decision to raise prices on the capital's Metro system.
Although Rally Chile isn't set to take place until April, the decision has been taken to cancel it as the government doesn't want to be accused of using vital public funds to host a motorsport event.
Mayor of the Biobio region, Sergio Giacaman, said the climate wasn't right for the event to go ahead but remains hopeful it will return in the future.
"We consider it prudent to postpone this date – it needs an adequate climate to perform," he said. "However, in Biobio we are all ralistas and, of course, we are going to work very hard for the 2021 event."
The 2020 calendar would have marked the first time since 2008 that WRC has run 13 rounds across a season. It's unknown if a replacement event can be found, but the highly popular Rally Spain would be a likely option.
