Formula 2 veteran and one-time Williams tester Luca Ghiotto has secured a switch to GT Racing for 2020, after signing a deal with R-Motorsport.
Ghiotto finished as runner-up to long-term Mercedes protégé Esteban Ocon in GP3 in 2015, and has spent the last four campaigns in GP2/Formula 2.
Ghiotto, who tested Williams’ Formula 1 machinery mid-2017, has taken five wins in Formula 2, and currently holds third in the standings ahead of next weekend’s Abu Dhabi finale.
The Italian dabbled in sportscars by making his LMP1 debut at Fuji Speedway and is set to contest the World Challenge Europe season with the Aston Martin-linked R-Motorsport team in 2020.
“The change from single-seater racing into a professional GT3 team like R-Motorsport is an important career step for me and offers a new perspective for my future in the sport,” said Ghiotto.
“I am looking forward to working together with the team and can’t wait to start into my first long-distance GT3 race in 2020.”
